REALLY? FIGURINES?

I've never been one to decorate with little figurines except for the occasional wooden hand-carved cheetah or ceramic Egyptian Bast. I guess I've always found them to be dust collectors and bookshelf invaders, but lately I've been a little more excepting of them...and...if they serve a purpose even better!

As I was wandering Pier 1 Imports the other day I decided I MUST have the "Love Bird" salt and pepper shakers. They were too adorable to pass up.

Luckily I was convinced not to buy the cow creamer (since I don't drink cream) and the elephant teapot (since I forget to drink tea) but they were both very close to joining my birds at home.

West Elm just informed me this morning that they have some figurines I might enjoy...and yes, maybe I would like some elephant book ends to fill the void of my teapot.

And since I am a sucker for anything shiny, even a creepy cute little squirrel caught my attention.

This little perched paper mache bird is calling for my credit card number ($10 + shipping) but I think I'll try to make it myself and add it to the collection of everything else I've started but haven't finished yet.

I've had a thing for owls lately and I think it's because they seem retro to me. Were owls big in the 60's or 70's?

Z Gallerie is another store with great little "thinnngs" to fill your shelves with like this clear glass octopus...

...Or a pair of white pheasants, although they don't really do it for me. I'm still stuck on the owl or elephant thing.

And I have to say, even though I like these little guys, I will NEVER let them take over the house!
