FRIDAY NIGHT DESIGNS

I hope everyone enjoyed their Friday night whether it was a night out on the town, at home watching a movie or spending time with your significant other. I opted to stay at home with my tape measure in hand {and with my significant other} as I began to think about the options for our new kitchen. The existing cabinets are brand new, and although the quality is not wonderful, this is not a kitchen that will be abused...so cabinets are here to stay. Raised panel, 1/2 overlay maple cabinets are not exactly my style, but I have big plans for them starting with a fresh coat of paint, new cabinet hardware, a few extra cabinets to match and a little rearranging. Here is what we have to work with...

I'm sure this "after" design will evolve over time, but here is option #1...

We are going to experiment with darker shades of gray paint on an extra cabinet door we found in one of the kitchen cabinets. The laminate countertop is also new, so we are going to have to work around those colors, but luckily there are a few shades of gray in the countertop. To balance out the cooler gray tones and stainless steel in the room, we'd like to introduce some warmer wood tones by adding floating shelves and wood tops, and also adding a bright wallpapered accent wall for the new wine bar.

The bench/pet food storage option is still up for discussion, but the advice I give my own clients is to design for the way they live and not anyone else, especially if they do not plan to move in the near future. I have two animals and to have a designated place to keep their food and dishes is something I'd like to incorporate into the space.

I'll keep you posted on our ideas and progress.

What do you think about option #1?

  1. I think a pet food storage area is awesome, I wish I had one, I have to use part of my regular food space plus some in the cellar it is a huge pain! When we redid our kitchen one of my favorite features is we added a pull out cabinet for trash it is hidden and much harder for animals to get into, plus now I can keep all of my cleaning supplies under the sink and locked up away from the kids.
    It looks beautiful!

  2. Thank you! I think I'm sold on the pet food storage...it would be so great to have those bags of food behind doors or drawers. One of the first things I did after moving in was ordered a trash pullout for under the sink. I think it's due in next week. I'm getting sick of the paper bag trash can we have now:)
    Thanks for the feedback!
