BERTOIA CHAIR {obsession}

Over the last five or six years I have obsessed over someday getting a pair {or more} of the Louis Ghost Chairs designed by Phillippe Starck, or at least a well-made knockoff since they are quite pricey. Although I still love that polycarbonate masterpiece, I'm beginning to obsess over another chair, this one designed by Harry Bertoia for Knoll in the mid 1950's.

"If you look at these chairs, they are mainly made of air, like sculpture. Space passes right through them." ~ Harry Bertoia

The Diamond Chair {my favorite}

Oh...and that Tulip Table {in above picture} designed by Eero Saarinen is another mid-century sculpture that makes my heart skip a beat.

MY APARTMENT {during a heat wave}

I know most of you New Englanders were probably just as excited as me to wake up to cool air and scattered raindrops after yesterday's {almost} record breaking heat. It was "take your doggie to work day" for me as my 3rd floor apartment reached it's record breaking temperature of 94 degrees. A simple solution to the problem would be to turn on our new air conditioner, but our 1900's apartment has not been updated since it was built {yikes!} and after a few minutes of cool air pumping through the room, our brief moment of comfort is crushed by blown fuses. Two years ago when searching for apartments, my motto was "the older, the better." I love the character and detail of older homes, but as I prepare to move into a not-so-detailed 1950's ranch, I'm more excited for the updated electrical and heating systems than the type of crown molding on the ceiling...plus I can always add that "character" I love so much.

As I begin to pack up my things, I'm a little sad to say good by to my apartment with "character." I've stared up at these painted tin ceilings from by bed for 2 years...

And at the metal quatrefoil heat grates which inspired my latest bedding collection.

The large windows in the apartment have brought my plants back to life, and the tinted textured glass panes help soften the afternoon sun.

The 9' high ceilings are covered with yet another pattern tin ceiling, stretching across the dining and living room.

When I reach for the door knobs throughout the house, I'm reminded of the building's age {you just don't often see details like this in new homes these days}...

And the untouched wood trim from over 100 years ago is still holding strong {most of it}.

I've grown to love these small details, but with the age and history of the home, comes a list of things I'm ready to say farewell to...slanted floors, plaster walls, 2 prong outlets {only one in each room} and pull-string light fixtures...to name a few.

Oh...and Miguel was a very well-behaved office dog yesterday in case you were wondering.

{outdoor} KITCHEN OF THE WEEK

Sorry I've been missing...I spent a few days in Rhode Island last weekend through Tuesday and have been playing catch-up at work ever since. I should be back to regular blog posts shortly, but in the mean time, here's a quick kitchen picture. I know most of us don't want to think about cooking outside in this heat right now, but how nice would it be to entertain in your outdoor kitchen when the weather is just right?!

BEFORE & AFTERS {by young house love}

I can't even begin to describe how excited I am to be in the process of purchasing my own home. All I can think about these days are the major transformations the house will eventually to go through...I can't wait to get my hands on it!!! As soon as we sign papers I'll share the before pictures, many of which may make you cringe...but have hope! I would NEVER allow dark wood paneling and ugly brass fixtures to get in the way of a beautiful home. Take it from the bloggers behind Young House Love. They are on their second home and their DIY home renovations are such an inspiration. I especially love what they did with this wood paneled and brick room of their first home. Keep this in mind when I show you our living room before...it's not a pretty site.

WADE A MINUTE!

It's 10:00 at night and my apartment is 85 degrees!!! Yes, I have an air conditioner, but it only works if all the lights are off...just one of the reasons I moving next month.

I'm dreaming of a cool refreshing swim right now...but a cold shower may have to do.

MY {Paris} PINTEREST

Each day I "pin" beautiful photos to my Pinterest folders, and each day I stop for a quick glance at my Paris folder. I know it only holds images of the Eiffel Tower, but they are a reminder of how much I want to visit someday. Here are a few of those pictures that have me dreaming of my next vacation. Let the savings being!
