PROJECT UPDATE {floors, doors and fresh paint}

Floors are in, bedroom walls are painted, living room TV is mounted in the wall and a front door color has been selected. It's been a busy week trying to finish up all the projects we started, but things are really starting to feel like home. 


We finished putting the floors in the bedroom and painted the wood paneling, but we still have window mullions to paint and base board to install. The overall design of the room may take a few months, but for now it's great to be in our freshly painted, much brighter bedroom. 

Mounting the TV was very exciting. Cords are hidden in the walls and it looks fantastic above our new credenza {which I forgot to mention we bought a couple weeks ago}. Our Broyhill Brazilla credenza from the late 50's is exactly what we were looking for.

Next we decided to paint our front door yellow and we will eventually remove the white storm door to show off the inviting color. 

We also decided to add a splash of color to our side entry door. I saw this idea on Bright Bazaar last month and thought it was so fun! I think we might do this to all of our interior doors. 

I promise I did a lot of painting too! If we get snowed in {in October!?!} we might be able to finish a few more projects this weekend. 

{LEGO} KITCHEN OF THE WEEK

TAKING THE STAIRS

I went from a third floor apartment to a single level house. Although three flights of stairs were a little inconvenient at times, I do miss having at least a few, especially if they could be as fabulous as these...

TAKE IT TO THE BEDROOM

The last few nights have been devoted to working on our master bedroom. This dark, paneled cave will soon be a bright and cheery place to relax. I knew this room had potential, and I have no problem looking past the ugly, but I can't stop thinking about the original design...brown floor tiles, dark wood paneling, dark outlet covers, dark, dark, dark. Yikes!

We toyed with the idea of taking down the wood paneling, but discovered wallpaper peaking out from corners and around outlets. After dealing with the old wallpaper in the living room {here} we decided that painting the wood paneling would work just fine. 

Those closet doors we enormous and hard to open, so we decided to use the space for our dresser since the bedroom is small and we wanted to have enough floor space. We have extra closets around the house, so losing this closet wasn't a problem. Since the paneling stops at the old closet, we are going to run trim along the walls and ceiling to create a "dresser nook" possibly even introducing updated wallpaper to the nook.

The carpet has been removed, exposing those lovely cafeteria floors...

But the new floors will soon fill the room. 

Two coats of primer have covered up those panels, and later today Benjamin Moore's Chantilly Lace will cover the rest {I'm still going through my "all-white" phase}

I'm so excited about our plans to custom build our turntable nook {here} that I decided to search for album storage solutions for inspiration.
