{glitz & glam} AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I'm not ashamed to admit that my goals on New Year's Eve is to wear something sparkly, dance until I can't walk and drink champagne with loved ones....so that's what I'll be doing tonight. Thank you for following Solo Thais, thank you for your wonderful comments and feedback and for and inspiring me to continue sharing my love of design with you. Happy 2012 everyone!

MY {wallpaper} PINTEREST

I've been on quite the wallpaper hunt ever since the "record nook" was designed. This might be the most indecisive I've ever been when it comes to choosing something for my home. I thought I would go for a bold damask pattern, but once I stumbled these photos, the decision became even harder. I also have to keep in mind that now there are two of us that have to come to an agreement and my pink and gold damask might have to wait for another project.

We've actually decided on one of the above...stay tuned for the reveal of our record nook wallpaper!

THE RECORD NOOK {part 1: shelves}

A couple months ago I shared our plans to turn a closet into a built-in nook to hold our records and turntable {here}....well, today the built-in begins!

My dad is on his way over with the supplies, and by mid-afternoon we should have something that resembles this...
I will keep everyone posted on the progress of course. I'm very excited!!!

{faux} TAXIDERMY HEADS

Faux taxidermy heads are a big trend in design right now, and I'm gladly jumping on the bandwagon! From paper mache bucks to up-cycled elephants, these wild animals can be found all over the Internet and all over the walls of many fabulously designed interiors {check out Pinterest}.

I managed to talk myself out of all-of-the-above animal heads this past month since I was still Christmas shopping, but ended up buying this cardboard buck for only $12.99 on Amazon.

Once assembled, this tiny piece of wall art seemed to get lost on my white wall, so I removed the glass from an existing frame and glued it to the cardboard backing.

I love when I can create artwork for my walls without breaking the bank!

{holiday} KITCHEN OF THE WEEK

Isn't this kitchen beautiful!?! I love the large windows, the desk-like island with a pot rack shelf, the pale blue color palette and the simple addition of mini pine trees and potted flowers. And although this chalkboard menu is not from the same kitchen, doesn't it seem like it would fit right in? I love the idea of hand writing a menu to display on top a buffet for a holiday gathering. Merry Christmas everyone!

BLACK {high-gloss vs. matte}

I've been working on a few spray painting project for my new office and I'm all of a sudden torn between high-gloss or matte black accessories and furniture. My plan was to go high-gloss, but after applying my first coat of matte paint, it reminded me of images of matte black accessories, walls and furniture I've been drooling over lately. Should I go matte, should I go high-gloss or should I mix it up?

I think I'll mix.

TUESDAY'S {peppermint} TREAT

I think I've mentioned it before, but I'm not crazy about candy sweets unless they are made of chocolate, but who can resist a candy cane this time of year!? That peppermint flavor will always remind me of hanging these red and white canes on the tree as a little girl, anxiously waiting for the Christmas magic to begin. Even when these bold circus-like stripes are translated to an outfit or interiors, it instantly feels innocent and playful.

WATERFALL COUNTERTOPS

Yesterday I shared a few images on the Solo Thais facebook page of my new desk being delivered to the showroom. I know it doesn't look like much right now, but the design was inspired by a contemporary style of countertops referred to as waterfall tops. Instead of the countertop ending at the edge of your cabinets, the countertop seamlessly falls over the side of the cabinet to the floor {well, it's made to look seamless} . Many different materials can be used to create this look, such as Corian, engineered stones, natural stone and even laminate for a more affordable option {like my desk}. Here are some waterfall countertops that have inspired my new desk.
