PORCH PROGRESS {our house}

"The porch" as we call it, is actually our dining room and soon-to-be second living room...basically a seating area with a small TV. It's the only room in our entire house that has insulation, but until we replace the old gas stove in the far corner of the room, it's just too cold this time of year. In the meantime, we've continued making small changes to the space knowing that someday soon we will be ready to buy that stove. Let's start from the beginning.

So we had this beauty installed and it completely changed the feel of the room. We can now see the right side of our yard!

Last Spring, before I was a contributor to the fabulous local Useful/Beautiful page, I was a Useful/Beautiful shop-a-holic. One day at work, all with the help of my wonderful boyfriend, I sold our Amazon dining room set, and purchased this mid-century dining room table and chairs all while sitting at my desk making phones calls. The best part...we made $5 off the swap. I'm not sure I should be proud of this since I didn't have to pick it up, or do the heavy lifting in the rain. 

Anyway, I've been on the search for new fabric for these chairs, but haven't been able to settle on any of the swatches I ordered online. I even spent a day wandering the isles of Osgoods Textiles, but left empty-handed. A month ago I was at SoWa Open Market in South Boston and picked up this interesting vintage fabric for only $5. I wasn't sure what I was going to use it for until I saw how great it looked with our porch paint color. I also think fuchsia looks great with just about everything.  

And this is what the room looks like as of this morning...well, this half of the room. The drippy chevron art on the wall is something I did a couple months ago using leftover cans of spray paint and metallic paint pens. 

The porch is becoming quite the colorful space, but with this new window letting in morning and afternoon light, the color seems to work. I'm excited to start on the other half of the room. I'd of course love a fireplace like this...

Stay tuned for updates on the rest of the porch. Also, the count-down has begun on our bathroom renovation! In just a few weeks we will be saying goodbye to our mustard yellow, brown marbled, flashback to the 60's bathroom {here}.
