{colorful} KITCHEN OF THE WEEK

I can't even begin to explain how much I love this! It makes me SO happy to see color used like this in a kitchen, especially on cabinets. The bold colors against the white background is pure perfection, and the simplicity of the furniture and accessories create balance in a space that could feel overwhelming. Well done. I might just be this kitchen's biggest fan!

I'M A KITCHEN DESIGNER THAT DOESN'T COOK?

It's true. Up until recently I didn't have the patience for cooking. I've worked in restaurants most of my life and became spoiled with being able to eat {almost} anything off the menu. When I do cook, it's eggs, veggie burgers out of a box, rice and steamed veggies, and I mainly rely on condiments for flavor. That's why, in our household, I stay out of the kitchen until it's time to clean up. Well...that's all starting to change. I've been following my good friend Susanne's wonderful food blog for sometime now, Daughter of the Daily Special, and trying a few things here and there, slightly gaining the confidence and patience required to prepare a simple meal. I know...sounds pathetic! Anyway, I'm so inspired by her simple, extremely healthy and delicious recipes that I just had to share my excitement about my new found appreciation for cooking.

This salad was a very satisfying meal for dinner the other night. No other sides dishes or proteins were needed to fill my belly.

This carrot salad {slightly modified} has become a staple component to my daily lunch salad...and carrots were not one of my favorite veggies.

A simple Greek salad, grilled asparagus and quinoa were the perfect ingredients for a gals lunch this past summer...prepared by Susanne of course.

Last night I made a batch of black bean patties, a recipe she emailed me, but perhaps might show up on her blog someday. I've always had a healthy diet, but this takes it to the next level. Not only does she share how to prepare these simple meals, but also explains when certain fruits and vegetables are in season, and what type of nutrients they provide to our bodies. Isn't that what eating should be about? If you are what you eat...I'm am now {more so then before} an assortment of rainbow colored fruits and vegetables with the addition of nuts and fish {and maybe a little red wine}. Subscribe to her blog so you don't miss the next recipe!

HAVE A CUPCAKE

I know...I'm always talking about Pinterest, but it really is fantastic! Besides being able to drool over thousands of beautiful photos, there are also many wonderful DIY ideas shared by generous "pinners". I have yet to try many of the ideas saved in my DIY Pinterest folder, but one I couldn't resist was this cupcake wrapper display in a spaghetti jar {here}. It's a great gift idea for those who love to bake and a creative way to display these colorful wrappers.

OUR BATHROOM {hold onto your hat}

When we started looking for a house to buy, our house was one of the first listings I came across, and the first one I dismissed because of the hideous bathroom. After seeing over 12 houses and losing one, we decided to at least take a look. Although it desperately needed updating, we could see past the ugly. A fresh coat of paint, new floors and a little demolition made all the difference, but we knew one room wasn't going to be that simple...the bathroom. I tried to think of ways we could make it work and remodel it on a DIY budget, but there isn't. It's going to be a full-gut renovation. Since I know what a bathroom renovation can cost, we are starting to collect our plumbing products and accessories little by little, so in a few months we will have everything on hand and be ready to go. In the meantime, let me share with you our mustard yellow, gold and brown bathroom!

Why so low?

So far we have purchased a Toto toilet, Robern mirror/medicine cabinet and Trikeenan floor tile. We have a ways to go, but this mock-up has me inspired to keep collecting what we need to keep this project on schedule. The chandelier over the toilet may be a stretch, but I love a little glam in the bathroom while getting ready!

KITCHEN OF THE WEEK {white, gray and a touch of lime green}

I've been admiring loving this kitchen for a few months now and it's about time I shared it. For being a fairly monochromatic space, this kitchen definitely makes up for it with interesting patterns, bold accessories and just a pop of lime green on the window trim {which has inspired some of my  recent home projects}. Even the walls, which look as though they are made of some type of sheer plastic{?} add a dramatic touch to this bright kitchen.

COLOR COMBO {pink, orange & gray}

When I first think of pink and orange together, I think of warm summer days, bold accessories and bright, flowery dresses...but what about using these colors in these cold winter months? Perhaps toning down these bold brights with a silver or gray would be the perfect winter combination.
