I've recently added a headboard to my wish list. I lose my pillows throughout the night, the gap between the bed frame and wall is too large to comfortably stack pillows to sit up and read, but most of all, I love the look of a decorated headboard. I'd love to make one myself, but chances are I'll be shopping around first for a ready-made one considering I have a long list of projects that I'm determined to finish before the end of the year. And although I love the look of reclaimed wood furniture, I'll most likely be in the market for a comfortable, upholstered headboard this time around.

Hanging above my fireplace is my grandparents old {and quite worn-out} mid-century wall sculpture they had in their living room for many years. I always loved the artwork around their house, and now seeing this daily brings back so many wonderful memories of visiting them in New Jersey.

Here are a few more examples of these wild mid-century wall sculptures.

I love how these sculptures look above the bed. I might have to try this when it's time to rearrange the mantel again.

I love this deep blue accent much in fact that a few weeks ago I splashed a little navy on my bedroom wall. I'll of course share when I'm done with that little project.

Anyone else a fan of Mad Men? I have a tendency to watch the background for mid-century interior inspiration more then the characters themselves...actually, I do that with most shows and movies I watch.

OUR YARD {part II}

The fenced in backyard was definitely one of the highlights about discovering our first home a year ago. However, there was a pretty disappointing/uninviting small overhang with cement steps, a stoop if you will, just off of our four-season porch {see brown shed-like structure below on the right}. We knew right away that we wanted to eventually add a deck in place of this stoop, I just didn't realize it would happen so fast and be so fabulous!
Our yard one year ago

In June we paint the shed-like structure white to match the rest of the house

A warm summer evening by the fire pit, day dreaming about our deck {Miguel day dreaming about my shrimp skewers}

A couple weeks later the guys arrived and in just a few hours we had a deck! See more about it {here}

And more about the furniture {here}

We wanted to keep feel of the deck as open as possible, so we decided to add a small section of railing to the left, protecting the furniture from the 1 1/2 foot drop. A single step wraps the rest of the deck allowing access to the rest of the yard.

Once the construction was finished, down went the grass seed...

...and two weeks later we have fresh green grass.

We still have a little framing to do around the sliding glass door and once the pressure-treated wood is dry we'll have to decide on a stain. But for now, I'm going to sit back and enjoy this wonderful addition to our home.
