{our house} KITCHEN UPDATE

It's been awhile since I've mentioned our plans to update our kitchen, but we've been making small steps over the last two years {very small steps}. The rest of the house, especially our bathroom, needed to be addressed first. Now that most projects are coming to an end, and the 7 week countdown has officially begun for the arrival of our little man, we decided it was about time to tackle this project. But first, here's a look at the small changes we've made so far.

Before

After moving in almost two years ago, we immediately removed the 3/4 wall dividing the kitchen and living room, installed new floors and took down multiple layers of wallpaper {see it here}. After that, we've been checking things off the list little-by-little

We sold the dated bisque colored dishwasher and replaced it with a new stainless steel dishwasher

Swapped out the brass hardware with modern stainless steel pulls

Removed the arch valance over the sink

Removed the useless, hard-to-reach refrigerator cabinet

Purchased a new refrigerator and moved it between the windows on the opposite wall

And two days ago we started removing the cabinet doors and drawers {and all their contents} in preparation to paint them

When I say "we", I clearly mean "he" as I can't participate in sanding or painting while pregnant ..but I'm very grateful for everything that is getting done, especially during this crazy heatwave.

Yesterday I came home from work to freshly primed cabinets. Our plan is to paint the wall cabinets white and the base cabinets a charcoal gray. Our inspiration came from this image from Centsational Girl

As much as we'd like to update the countertop and add a tile backsplash, that will have to wait awhile, but at least we are one step closer to having a kitchen that's more aesthetically pleasing.
